Part I: First Impressions

Several weeks ago, while in the studio with notable New Jersey producer, Buff Billions, I was introduced to rising rap phenom, India. Those in the know may recognize her from her work within the adult film industry. After I checked out her music profile on MySpace and listened to the tracks, I was surprisingly impressed. Her shit is fire. We immediately dialed her up.

Over the phone, India’s voice was soft and sweet. Wow! She came across as not only likable, but also confident and professional, which is what really impressed me about her. We spoke about a few of our upcoming projects and promised to work together on future collaborations.

Weeks passed and we spoke only occasionally, then lost contact after I replaced my mobile phone. Honestly, I just kind of blew it off, assuming that, because of the lack of contact, India probably moved on to other things, assuming I had also. Then one day while at the studio, my phone rang. It was India’s unbelievably soft voice on the other end, telling me she was in NY for the weekend and asking me if we could connect. I kind of played it like, I had to check my schedule and shit, but I was all for it. I immediately called Eddie House, my dude from Felon Magazine, to see if he wanted an exclusive interview. Yes! Everything was confirmed and we planned to meet up with India Saturday evening.

Saturday, House and I met up early in the city, hung out and talked business. The moments flew by and it was time to meet with India. Eddie grabbed his recorder and I had my camera and we headed out to meet her. A half hour passed and no India. India was in town, filming a movie. She planned to meet us after the shoot. When I had not heard from her, I called. No answer. A half hour turned into two hours. Damn. It was obvious that we would not be meeting. However, it was cool, because House and I decided we’d hit up some spots and just have fun. If it weren’t for my friendship with House, I would have looked very unprofessional. It was no love lost, though. I figured something came up, otherwise she would not have invited us out.

At 6:00 AM Sunday morning, I dropped off House after a crazy night in the city and headed back to The Bricks, for some sleep. Barely into a good doze, at 9:15 AM, my cell phone was screaming in my ear. Who the fuck? I probably answered the phone in my most groggy voice. It was soft-spoken India…
